Tallinn airbnb Host
The host in Tallinn is the only one who refused to pose for me in the entire Europe trip. That’s why the above picture is EMPTY with frame only.
There’s always a bit luck to draw a good painting. It wouldn’t be a good painting if the model isn’t cooperate or I can’t ‘connect’ to the model.
Tallinn disappointed me most in the entire EU trip. The host is cold, not much can be called as scenery and the food isn’t that delicious. There is a big contrast between the golden gorgeous St. Petersburg and the nothing-to-see Tallinn.
I have a stomach ache in Tallinn so I have to stay at home and plan the travel schedule. I planned to stay in Tallinn for 5 nights and I really want to leave early but I have booked all my bus tickets ahead and they are hard to re-schedule so I just stuck in tragic Tallinn.
Painting is my comfort, light and hope in tragic Tallinn. The worry and anger would flow out lightly with paint brushes and become colourful/black-and-white drawings on paper and the grey emotion would be gone and a light mood return.
I am traveling in Europe and doing the Picture the Host Project and have been in Moscow, London, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki and St. Petersburg. I think I know my hosts better and would have a ‘connect’ feeling when I finished the portraits of my hosts.
I turn to draw an imaginary drawing because the Tallinn host refused to let me draw her. I don’t have the opportunity to know this Tallinn host better but I know myself better because this imaginary Final Human Evolution drawing release my inner feeling.
I feel like I am a walking bank note when I was in Tallinn.
I stay with airbnb in Tallinn because I can’t find a CS host. The airbnb cost me EU$25 per night for a single room and a 180 degrees sea view in the living room. That is really the most spectacular view among all hosts in Europe and I can even sit on the windowsill to eat my lovely breakfast. That is the ONLY pros of that apartment.
The airbnb host in Tallinn is called Kadri. She said she is 29 years old. Her home is around 1000 square feet with 2 rooms 1 toilet with an open kitchen. I don’t know if Kadri is the owner or renter of that apartment. She said she is still at school and majoring in psychology and minoring in airbnb.
It is only a few days before my arrival when I booked Kadri’s room in airbnb.
I asked Kadri, ‘Would there be anybody in the apartment when I stay there?’
Kadri said, ‘There’s only me living in the apartment,’
But that is a language trap.
One the first night, I surprisingly find out there is a Vietnamese male living in the guest room when I arrive and Kadri arranged me to stay in the master bed room; on the second night, the Vietnamese male leave and I has to move back to the guest room and a female friend of Kadri came and sleep on the sofa in living room; on the third night, the female friend leave and Kadri’s boyfriend came and stay in the master bed room with Kadri.
FIVE people has come and stayed in FIVE nights.
Kadri doesn’t really lie to me because she is the only person who LIVING (for a long period) in the apartment but she hides the fact that so many people would come and stay in the apartment.
And there are lots of rules and regulations in the apartment such as I can only use one specify type of cloth to wipe the table and there are specify orders of hanging laundries that I have to obey.
Kadri is definitely NOT as ‘easy going’ as she claimed herself on Airbnb website. Kadri is NOT an honest person to me and she is not sincere nor easy going.
I am so sorry and regret that I have met her.
I am really angry.
I am giving money and I am the consumer. Why do I have to be bullied by Kadri?
But if Kadri is a CS Host and I had lived in that apartment for FREE, I don’t think I would be angry even the same things happen like FIVE people come and stay in FIVE nights, lots of stupid rules and regulations and a cold host.
I can’t ask people to do anything for me because it’s a free staying. As long as there are no accidents, no dangers, no hurt and I think it is fine and every other things are bonus for free staying.
I have to pay to stay with Airbnb. I was taught to believe ‘Consumers are higher, Money-receivers are lower’ in capitalism city Hong Kong. I don’t think Kadri and I are equal. I have the rights to order her because I am a consumer and Kadri has the duty to fulfill my requests because she received the money.
I am angry because Kadri who receive the money but not fulfilling my requests. I don’t think I will be angry or would even have sympathy on Kadri if she is a FREE CS Host.
I find out that I would have a different emotional reactions on the same person, same incidents, same time & space. I am surprise to find out my perception, emotion and mood would be greatly affected by MONEY.
Money is a gigantic credit system and is a part of social constructor. Would socially construction like ‘family’, ‘school’ and ‘society’ greatly affect my feelings like ‘love’ and ‘hate’ which normally believe must be nature and pure if money can greatly affected my perception, emotion and mood?
I am a walking bank note in Kadri’s eyes.
She hosts me just because of money in which totally different from CS Hosts who host me because of cultural exchange/drawing/sharing each other stories.
I have tried to talk to Kadri but she said she is tired and escape quickly. I am tired too but it’s a rare opportunity to live under the same roof with local people. How can I miss the chance to learn more first-hand foreign culture with the authentic local people?
All the CS Hosts I have met, including the language barrier St. Petersburg CS Host and the always-long-day-work Stockholm CS Host would understanding we come from the opposition side of the Continent. It would be a great fortune for us to meet and be face-to-face in the same time and space. We would grasp this precious opportunity to talk and share different perceptive.
It is such a pity that my host in Tallinn is Kadri who care about money only and has no intention on culture sharing. I have travel far to Tallinn but waste a golden opportunity to learn more about Estonia.
Warm hosting from heart does not inevitable. The most precious thing on Earth is always priceless and FREE and people always omit it even if they already obtain it.
I own a great thank you to every CS Host I have met because they share their culture with me and let me paint every colorful drawing in Picture the Host Project.
Couch Surfing hosting is free but it brings back lots and lots of priceless memories, friendships and joy.
