Malaga Host Alicia
我從葡萄牙首都里斯本去西班牙南部城市馬拉加，由於兩國都是歐盟國家，所以無邊境檢查；我是坐Bla Bla Car去的。
Bla Bla Car
I was going from Lisbon, the capital of Portugal to Malaga, a southern city in Spain. There was no border because Portugal and Spain are both European countries.
I went there by Bla Bla Car.
Bla Bla Car was very popular in Europe. It is a carpooling website. Everybody can register as a member (Passenger or Driver) and it’s free.
I can see the charges of different drivers and their driving record in Bla Bla Car if I typed the departure location, destination, travelling date, number of passenger and with/with not luggage.
I paid Bla Bla Car once I chose a driver. Bla Bla Car would give me a password. The driver and I recognised each other by that password. And the driver got money from Bla Bla Car with that password.
There were 4 passengers and a driver on my journey from Lisbon to Malaga. We didn’t know each other. There were female student, a mum, a middle-class man, a male traveller and the only Asian face (that’s me:). Some of the passenger got off the car in middle of the journey. The rest of us went straight to Malaga.
The driver was a handsome Spanish. He said his home town was Malaga and he worked in Lisbon. He would go back to Malaga from time to time. But it was a waste for him to drive a car every time. That’s why he asked in Bla Bla Car if anyone would like to share the oil cost to Malaga.
It was fun when I first met the handsome driver. Hong Kongers like me would just greet or shake hands with first meet people. But the passionate Spanish would hug and kiss and the handsome driver was no different.
We were first meet in the terminal. He put his face near me and I was surprised. I just turned my head towards him without another thought and my head hit on his chin. We both held our painful head and cried.
A gentleman nearby was laughing hard because he witnessed the whole incident.
I said embarrassedly, ‘I am sorry!’
The handsome driver was a gentleman. He was massaging his painful chin and smiled and said, ‘It’s OK, sometime we did that too,’
But the distance from Lisbon to Malaga was so far. We arrived in Malaga AN HOUR LATER THAN SCHEDULED TIME. I made Alicia who had waited HOURS for me in the Malaga terminal worry.
Alicia, I am so sorry!
It was another funny story of how I knew Alicia.
Alicia is a Spanish. Malaga is her home town.
And we met in Kiyuna Farm in Ogimi, Okinawa, Japan.
We were both wwoofers (free accommodation with 6 days work) there. I went back to Hong Kong after working holiday in Japan and Alicia went back to Spain. But we kept contact for years and writing postcards to each other.
Alicia said I HAVE to come to Malaga if I was going to travel in Europe. She said Malaga is just a place that I OUGHT to see.
And she is right. Malaga is so beautiful. Thanks so much for your recommendation, Alicia!
Alicia was a social worker in a mental hospital. She worked there for decades but she quit her job and enjoying the warm Spanish sun now.
She is sweet and funny. She went out with me every day and took me to places where only the locals knew like beautiful graffiti, little wine house and yummy restaurant.
She is an optimist with great humour. The room will be lightened if she is there and no one get upset.
I remembered we were so tired of working in Kiyuna Farm and daydreaming our great escaping plan, I said, ‘We should find a cow and ride on it and escape the farm during dark!’
She agreed, ‘Absolutely! We should start picking the fastest cow right now!’ and she put her tongue out and pretended riding on a crazy cow back.
Alicia is signal and has no kids but she is looking after her lovely nieces and met Juan who is a signal father with 3 lovely children.
Alicia said with a smile, ‘We are baby-sitting-dating. There always are kids when we date every time,’
Oh, this kind of baby sitting as an excuse for dating was very common in Hong Kong in the old days!
Alicia is brave in love, she said, ‘I was swimming with Juan one night. It was beautiful with moon was shining on the sea. But Juan was very passive and I said, “I am going to scream if you do NOT touch me now,” ’
We visited a local community centre where Alicia has her choir practise. They were showing a documentary directed by the choir teacher that night. They sang together happily after the film and even danced the Flamenco, awesome!
Malaga was actually the birth place of Picasso. And the famous Spanish art like Flamenco and bullfighting was born in southern city like Malaga.
Malaga is really a place that OUTGHT to visit. Thanks again for inviting me to come to Malaga, Alicia!
