ADAO
Association for the Development of Arts and Crafts’)藝團接手,改建為藝術村,現時有數十位藝術家進駐,並定時開放予公眾參觀。
This building was built on Barreiro, a small island next to Lisbon. It was built in 1894 and used as a fire station/dorm. It was closed in 2008 and was taken over by ADAO (Associação para o Desenvolvimento das Artes e Oficios, English: Association for the Development of Arts and Crafts’) and became an art village. Artists work in ADAO and open to public from time to time.
Angela and Kico, my CS Host in Lisbon liked ADAO a lot and said I would love ADAO too. So we visited ADAO while we were walking the dogs.
It was a lovely sunny day. It was beautiful with a bright blue sky with ADAO’s red brick wall. The wall was covered by graffiti and it made the building into a big art piece.
An Open Day was held a couple of days ago and the art installations were still in ADAO. I was glad to see lots of interesting art pieces.
Fake Banksy was in the front hall. Fake Banksy’s work was like Banksy’s black and white graffiti style but with a new composition to express her own opinions on war, rich/poor and public media. ‘Girl Power’ was a main theme in Fake Banksy’s work which was different from Banksy’s work. Angela said Fake Banksy was a female artist, cool!
There was a room which was printed all black near the stair on the first floor. And there were a few all-black paintings with golden frame hanging in the black wall room. There were a few tree roots ‘growing’ from the black painting and attached on the floor. And some soil was on the floor with real green grass on it.
It was really special! The paintings were dead but the green grass was alive. Life was born from death. A few things without words mean a lot. It really impressive!
The Open Day passed when I visited ADAO. I had no idea what it was like when it was exhibited. Maybe there were more flowers, plants or paintings in the room.
But the green grass was moved from its original habitats and probably would die in the room. Would that be a MURDER case…?
I saw a super amazing up-cycling in ADAO. An artist assembled several anti-slip square plastic into a cube and put in a light bulb and hang it on the ceiling and turn on the light. Wow, a square shadow was covered the whole room and it was just AMAZING!
From the ground to the ceiling, from waste to a stylish light, so creative and beautiful!
Pianist, dolls-makers and painters were hosted in ADAO too. Angela and Kico knew lots of artists. Everybody stroked the dogs and drank a glass of beer with a relax atmosphere. Such~a~paradise~!
