Churches in Granada are beautiful. I was so amazed by the detail craved wood decoration and beautiful ceilings.
I was deeply impressed by a church which focus on Holy Mary.
A few Holy Mary dolls were in that church. They were around a meter tall and put up on walls for people to worship.
Their clothes were expensively beautiful: laced white veil, silver hair decoration, blue velvet dress…
Their appearance were outstandingly beautiful. They looked like in their 20s’ with detail make up. They just looked like HUMAN, even super-model.
They have a lively sad expression. Big tears were falling down their pretty faces.
Their tears capture hearts and their sadness gain devout.
That was my first time to experience art which depict sadness so precise. I was moved for observing sadness objectively. These beautiful dolls ‘humanized’ Holy Mary. And gave a clear pretty face to her followers.
Holy Mary appeared as a female figure. Her tears represent weakness. A ‘weak lady’ suit the women perception in a patriarchal society. And with the supreme technique in art (Doll making). It win the people’s hearts.
