Barcelona is literally Gaudi’s City. Gaudi the genius architect (the above image, source: Wikipedia) left lots of classic pieces in Barcelona. They are all beautiful and amazing.
Gaudi never married in his own life. He was born in Reus in Catalonia, Spain and died in Barcelona. (Barcelona was part of Catalonia)
It was said that Gaudi only spoke Catalonian in his whole life. (Let’s make Hong Kong as an example, Catalonian=Cantonese, official Spanish=Mandarin/Putonghua) Wow, Gaudi was a dialect supporter! I like him even more～
Gaudi was lucky to meet his supporter, Guell. Guell commissioned Gaudi lots of beautiful works and trusted him to develop his own style. Gaudi was in the right place for his talent and could live on doing something he like, what a dream life for every artist!
One day, when Gaudi was leaving Sagrada Familia, he was hit by a tram. People thought he was just a beggar because of his shabby clothing and he did not get an immediate care. Gaudi was recognised in the following day but he was too ill to receive any treatment. He died a few days later. Aged 73.
What if Gaudi was in a proper dressing, what if everybody, including the beggars was treated equally in the society, would there be any difference?
I just visited Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, Park Guell and Palau Guell. I finally understood what are ‘Beautiful Buildings’. I can see light and shadow are playing and the flowers on the wall are stretching when I entered the building. Although Gaudi was long gone but the beauty he left still touching lots of people’s hearts.
I didn’t have enough time in Barcelona this time. I just visited 3 pieces of Gaudi work. I will visit Barcelona again for sure to see Gaudi’s work!!
