沙漠露營 Desert Camping
My first camping is in desert, so cool!
My CS Host family and their friends went to desert to camp and I followed. They were the foreign families who working in Abu Dhabi. Parents and kids were in desert and the atmosphere was high.
The gentlemen were setting up the camp and making fire. The ladies were preparing food. And the children were playing kite and model cars.
Our dinner were BBQ sausage and meat. And salads, spaghetti, bread which brought from home. The children were all looking forward the baked cotton candy.
We BBQ after dark and the desert was all black. I didn’t know if the meat in my plate is bloody red or carbon black. I always knew the terrible answer in my mouth, Oh…
The desert’s nutrition level suddenly rise up dramatically because of the food debris leave by us. Would that affect the desert ecosystem…?
I was looking forward to see the stars after dark in desert. I had never seen the Milky Way. And I really wanted to see bright stars on sky!
But it was a Full Moon night...and cloudy...just like my dim mood......
As for the toilet issue, Of course No toilets in dessert. Just walk away and finish the business.
I was so tired so I went back to the camp at 10pm. I stayed in the same camp with my CS Host family. The children were already asleep but their parents were still chatting beside the camp fire.
A thin mat was put on the sand and that was the ‘bed’ in desert. The sandy ground was not flat and I felt slanting when I laid on it.
The night wind was blowing and the sand was moving. My desert bed not only slanting but escaping!
The elder son started calling ‘mama’ and started throwing up after I have laid down. I was shocked and ran out the camp to find his mum Laura.
Laura dashed back to the camp with me but Jerome the dad was cool. He kept sitting comfortable by the fire and chatting with his friends.
The younger son who slept next to the elder son was still sleeping. He didn’t be woken by all the noise.
The elder son was fine. Laura was holding him and smiled at me, ‘Thanks. You can have some rest. He’s fine,’
The elder son throw up again later. Laura was with him all the time.
I was nervous and the sand under me was literally escaping again. I didn’t get used to the desert environment and didn’t have much sleep.
The next night I threw up at home in city.
I was in and out the toilet all day. I threw up, and got diarrhea, and slept, and threw up again and again. I couldn’t eat any food. This was my second time I got sick on this trip (The first sick was in Tallinn.) Poor me...
I was too excited in Madrid, Spain. And didn’t got enough sleep. And I flew straight to Abu Dhabi. I came from a cold place to a hot place in a day. Then straight to the desert camping. And the food is too oily... and I fell...
I got little strength back the next day. I want a glass of warm water but didn’t have enough strength to go downstair.
The home was big. My guest room was on the second floor with my own toilet and bathroom. But the tap water was undrinkable.
Laura walked by but she didn’t see me. Shirley the Philippines maid walked by and she came to me and asked if I was OK. I asked for a glass of water immediately.
I finally felt hungry in the afternoon. I walked down the stair slowly and saw Jerome. He said, ‘Eat some fried snack. Vegetable was inside. Good for sick people.’
How could a patient eat fried food? I thought he was joking. But he was serious. I was speechless and smiled weakly, ‘Thanks...I will have some later,’
Oh, it’s seem the French and the Chinese had a big different in the ‘suitable food for patients’...
I want to have some Chinese porridge. But the French family didn’t eat rice. Only Shirley who came from Philippine ate rice. I asked Shirley for some rice and started to cook my Chinese porridge.
Actually I was not a good cook. Shirley had mercy on me and help me. Thanks so much, Shirley!
Laura said the local people won’t camp in desert. Now I totally understood.
The AUE people camp in the desert for thousands years as Nomadic. Oil made them rich and they all lived in beautiful houses in city. Of course they won’t camp in desert!
Desert was like a big vortex and suck up all my energy...
